He is finally getting the hang of coloring with crayons. I've tried many times, but he would be more interested in eating the crayon. I would tell him the crayon goes on the paper and he'd just throw it down on the paper. That, I think, came from us telling him that his food goes in his mouth or on the table - and he'd throw the food on the table (instead of the floor.) But now, he is actually making some scribble lines with the crayon. He does still try to eat it of course, but at least we're getting somewhere.
Twice recently he went to the toilet, put his hand on it, and started 'pushing' so he is obviously making the association. Few people believe us when we tell them that Andrew goes #2 in the toilet nearly everyday. Of course, that's if we catch on fast enough, which we usually do. A day or two ago I heard him grunting a little bit and I said, "Andrew, do you need to go poop in the toilet?" And he immediately turned and practically ran in the direction of the bathroom. He started to turn to go in but then kept on running! He went to MY bathroom. So I had to run back and get the potty seat to put on our toilet so he wouldn't fall in.. but I was too late. Oh well. Ted thinks he associates our bathroom with being a big person.
Last Thursday morning Andrew was looking at one of his dinosaur-shaped books that has words and pictures inside. This particular one had soap (and sponge and bubbles and water) as one of the words. He would point to the word 'soap' and then rub his hands together as if he's washing his hands! He can read the word soap and knows what it is?! Sure, I help him wash his hands but I dont think we even do that every day, and he learned early to rub his hands together when I put soap on them... but when did he learn to read the word? I am so impressed with him.
Today he impressed me again with his reading new words. We've been trying since he was a few months old to teach him colors.Sometimes it'd seem like he got it, and then later we might as well have been speaking Greek. So I am fairly confident he finds colors confusing. However, today he was interested in the page of "Put Me In the Zoo" where the dog's spots are green. With no expectation of a response, I asked him if he could point to green. He tapped on the green spots on the page. I said, "Oh okay. Well, can you find the word 'green'? and then sarcastically added 'like he knows his colors.' Wouldn't you know, he pointed to the word "green" on the page. ?! Mom and I were both impressed. But should I be? The kid is a genius - why am I so surprised when he seems to know new words READING them himself? He just blows my mind with his intelligence.
Ted said that Andrew said "Iguana" perfectly clearly the other day.. but he hasn't said it since. He does point to the letter "I" and says "I".
Poor Flash has been getting his eyes poked all day long. Andrew does it to us too at times, but he will go up to Flash saying "eye, eye" and try to poke his eyes. He calls ears 'eye' also even though if you ask him to touch his ears he points to his ears correctly. If you ask him to point to his eyes, he sticks his finger in his ear again. So I know he knows the difference but I guess its still confusing when he is being asked which one is which.
Apparently it is getting around the hall that Andrew knows how to read. We barely made it through the doors last Thursday night (C.O. Week) when the discussion came up. I ended up having to prove it. I pulled out one of his animal books, thumbed through it and realized he just says the sound of the animals which doesn't prove anything but that he recognizes the animal. So I pulled out the Row Row Row Your Boat book and squatted down next to Andrew. I asked him to point to "boat" "down" and "stream" and each time he pointed to the correct word. (well, he did point to row first, but after that he got them all right) Our friends were so intrigued. Then another girl took the book and asked him to point to stream and he got that one right. I had to explain that although I am helping him learn to read and sign - my intention is to help Andrew and I to be able to communicate during the "terrible twos and threes" and lessen his frustration that is so common at that age. Surely between signs and reading he will be able to tell me what he needs or wants. One can hope anyway!
On Saturday in the ministry he knocked on his first door. It was so cute. I knocked first, and then let him knock the second time. He was so pleased with himself! No one came to the door though.
Lately he has been making a really annoying sound. He scrunches up his face and says "eeehh" in a whiney awful tone. It doesn't seem to mean anything in particular because he does it in various circumstances. But yesterday he did it to Nana and she said, "I dont know what 'eehh" means (mimicking his tone). Then he signed "all done" to her. lol
Which reminds me.. he is finally signing "more" even though he says it too. He doesnt have it exactly right, but close and I know what he's doing so that works fine.
I have started keeping a list of words I know he can read. I'm sure there are a lot more, but I only just thought of starting to keep track. In just two days I added 29 words and I know there are some I've forgotten. These are not just words he can recognize by the picture or anything - these are words he is actually finding on a page when asked to. He is not pointing to pictures, he is pointing to words. (although he is recognizing pictures and will point to those too when we ask.) A bunch of the words he tries to say also.
I need to start taking more pictures of him again.. just been too busy!

Good-bye Tripod.
We had to say goodbye to our dear Tripod on Friday. Two dogs came into our yard and attacked him. Our neighbor ran them off but it was too late; Tripod didn't make it. Ted and I are devastated of course, and I've tried my best to keep myself together as much as possible. Twice though I just broke down sobbing in front of Andrew. The first time he laughed at me, I guess thinking it was a game or something. The second time he wasn't too sure what was going on. He walked over to me, looked at me a little odd, smiled and gave a partial laugh, but I think he figured out that time that something was wrong. On one hand, Ted was hoping that Tripod would live long enough for Andrew to appreciate a truly awesome pet. On the other hand, I'm glad that Andrew doesn't understand the loss right now.
Saturday he woke up in a pretty subdued mood. Not sure what that was about. He didn't want anything but milk for breakfast, and then curled up in my lap and went to sleep. We transferred him to his crib where he slept for an hour and 40 minutes. He woke up happy though, and we went and ran errands to get our mind off of Tripod. Andrew fell asleep in the car shortly after leaving, slept for 40 minutes, was an angel the entire time we were out, and slept for probably 30 minutes on the way home. Three naps! He's been drooling more than usual so all we can assume is that it's his teeth bothering him and making him extra tired some days.
We play with the blocks together. The wooden blocks, as well as the cardboard stackable ones. He likes it when I build a big tower, and gets great delight in knocking it over. He does try to put some back after knocking the tower over. He's pretty successful too!
We have a broken laptop that we gave to Andrew. He wasn't interested in it until I wrote a bunch of words on a piece of paper and taped the paper over the screen. Now whenever you open the laptop for him, he alternates banging on the keyboard with each hand to mimic the sound of typing.
Early this morning I was lying on the couch while he played on the floor. He came over to me and touched my foot so I wiggled my toes. He started to laugh and tried to wiggle my toes for me. Then I moved my foot out a little and tickled his tummy with my toes. That really got him going. Soon he was backing away from me, then coming forward to tickle his own tummy with my toes.. back and forth.
Speaking of tickling.. the "Are You Ticklish" book is one of his favorites. The very last page is of a little boy in a tent and usually we tickle Andrew when he opens the tent. The other day, though, I saw him get to that page and he tickled himself! Ha ha!
He is reading a lot of words. I need to write them all down to see how many he knows. Today during the meeting, with each book, he would sit and quietly read to himself. I knew he was reading because when he got to familiar words, he either pointed to that part of his body, or made the animal sound. Later on I reached over and just pointed to a word and he responded. He puts his hand on his head for 'head.' Growls for "Tiger". Points to his "ear", says "hi", waves, etc. I'm really impressed. His word of the week has been Gorilla. He has said it perfectly clearly once, but the rest of the time its more like "Go-eh-La" and sometimes just "Gola" but totally recognizable.
He has found where I moved all of his Your Baby Can Read books and movies. No other books satisfy him - he stands at the cabinet and just bawls because he can't reach his videos or books. At the same time - he'll have a bunch of books in reach on the floor and he doesn't want them. Arg!
I finally bought him that bounce on toy he liked so much several months ago at another kid's house. It's a little Zebra and he can bounce, rock, and spin while on it. It plays music and has lights and stuff. Its pretty cute. He likes it. I dont think he'll be entertained by it for much longer, but it's something different for now. And being that it is something he'll outgrow, we will be able to get rid of it again and not have to keep it for a long long time and be totally overrun by toys. It will be a sad day when I have to get rid of his push mailbox. That thing has been great and he loves it!
This Sunday morning he had a spell of being upset that he couldn't reach his videos/books. I gave him a bite of this new chocolate covered acai-blueberry fruit thingy I found at Costco. Then he was eyeing my glass of milk. I gave him a sip of milk from my glass.. then he hugged me and walked away happy! He was just a little angel at meeting today!! Daddy had to run the sound so we sat in the second row by ourselves. I let Andrew have the aisle seat just hoping he wouldn't throw books into the aisle.. and he didnt. I didn't give him his book bag. He sat there perfectly content with nothing for at least the first five minutes before I gave him a book. He quietly read books for a long time. About ten minutes before the end of the meeting is when he started getting upset about having to stay in his seat. But still - he did great!
After the meeting we had to go to Publix and pick up a few things. When we headed for the milk aisle, we were facing the pharmacy. I saw Andrew throw his arm up in the air. I realized he saw the "Pick Up" written above the pharmacy window.
The following video is from 11/3/10 when he was helping me unload the dishwasher.
And, after the dishes were done, he stole the basket and was wheeling it around!
For the next video, I closed the door and asked him to knock on it. Gotta get some practice in!

A Trip to the Aquarium
Friday we all took off work and went down to Chattanooga to visit the aquarium. It was very overwhelming as there were also many bus loads of kids there who were loud. We had a very nice time anyway and Andrew seemed to enjoy seeing the fish and especially be able to just get down and walk! It seemed to be a decent distraction to teething as well. I have a really hard time giving him Motrin when I know it has harmful junk in it - but all the teething tablets that worked have been recalled for an imbalance in one of the ingredients - so I dont have a choice since it does give him relief. But distractions are good too, though we still needed the Motrin to keep him happy. Here are my favorite pictures from the aquarium:
On another note... last saturday Ted and I both saw his new molars coming in. The ones that aren't supposed to come in until he's at least two. This teething experience has been awful. Andrew has been whiny and irritable and tired. Well today, when I got a good look in his mouth.. they were GONE! Gone?!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! We've gone through all of this for the teeth to go away?!! They'd better come back through fast when they decide to come in. I can only browse through random stores as a distraction so many times. Although, today Kroger didn't seem like a good distraction. He didn't want to hold my hand to walk and got mad if I picked him up to move him along. He didn't want to be held either. Didn't want to ride in the shopping cart. We couldn't win tonight.
I also think Andrew has made some interesting word associations that he signs for as well. For example.. "change." I have only used it with him for a diaper change, but I've noticed that he has started signing "change" when he just wants something different. For example, when he is in the stroller and he wants to walk. Or he is offered one food but wants a different food.
Another one he does is "done" or "all finished." We really only needed to use it when we were referring to his being finished eating. I think it spilled over into other things here and there on occasion... but he is now signing 'all done' at the end of books too.
I was playing on the floor with him this morning before I had to leave for my photoshoot, and I asked him if I could have a hug. He came over to me, put his arms around me and rested his head on my shoulder. How sweet is that?
Ted has taught Andrew more animal sounds. Ted does a really good impression of an elephant and Andrew is getting better at his attempts to imitate him. I certainly dont come close. He also does a mouse - with almost no noise he does something with his teeth and lips like his daddy does. He roars like a tiger, growls for a bear. I've heard him cluck for a chicken but only twice. I've heard him say "Duck.. quack" once. He will moo for a cow again. He makes his own conceived tractor noise. He is working on a monkey sound.
He finally outgrew his size 4 shoes. It didn't seem like he was in them very long.. but there is no getting his foot into them anymore. So I guess he's in 4.5 now.. not really sure.
He loves being outside wandering around and picking up leaves. Walking up and down the sidewalk.
Andrew is still obsessed with books. If he cries - show him a book. He still loves "But Not the Hippopotamus" and "Go, Dog. Go!" and a book of Colors. He is starting to pull out "Row Row Row Your Boat" often, and "Muddy Puddle." "Ten Little Ladybugs" and "Eight Silly Monkeys" and a Farm book that has baby animals in it. Sometimes he still brings me "Moo, Baa, La La La" but not as often as he used to. I'm sure there are more, but ALL day long if he is home, he is bringing you a book to read. I am curious what he would do if I hid all his books just for a day.

Sick or Teething? .. nobody knows
There seems to be a debate among parents and professionals alike as to how high a fever will go that is attributed to teething. We know Andrew is teething.. and he's only had a low grade fever once in his life so far. He hasn't really been sick. We got sick last January but I dont remember him really being sick. And any time he seemed like *maybe* he was fighting something, we were able to ward it off quickly with herbs and essential oils. Yesterday, however, I was in uncharted territory.
He was in good spirits, but was still ... off ... as far as his usual energy and demeanor go. But thats okay - he's teething, no big deal. He was more tired which is unusual, but we all have off days now and then without being sick. Approaching 4pm, Nana was putting him down for a nap before going home. He was drinking a bottle, made the sign for "all done", and then spit out a bunch of milk. Mom wasn't sure if he was holding it all in his mouth and spit it out, or if he actually threw up, but it did warrant a shirt change. He went down for his nap and slept soundly. Nearly two hours later we thought we'd better let him wake up for dinner so he can have some time to play before going down for the night. We opened his door and let him gradually wake up. He still seemed exceptionally tired but we assumed he had been sleeping hard and it was just hard waking up. I had made omelets for dinner and when I offered him a bite, he leaned forward to take it but proceeded to throw up... three times in quick succession, all over daddy and the floor. I get towels and lay them down on the floor, and then Ted set Andrew on top of them while we tried to get them both cleaned up a little bit. Andrew just leaned forward and laid his head on the floor.
I took his temperature and it was 102.6, but it was under the arm which means his temperature was actually 103.6. When we got clean clothes and everything, we made a comfy spot on the couch for him. He drank a little bit of watered down juice and just chatted on the couch. He was obviously uncomfortable but in good humor. I took his temperature again - just thirty minutes after the first time - and now it was 103.9 (which is really 104.9!) I ran a warm bath for him, but when we put him in he just screamed as though I was pouring ice all over him. Daddy got in and sang him into a peaceful resting position. I called the pediatrician and the on-call nurse who called me back didn't really seem concerned about it - maybe because I wasn't flipping out. I told her I didn't know what I was supposed to give him, and if I was to take him somewhere I wasn't certain where either. She was stunned to learn we didn't have childrens tylenol or motrin on hand already and that he'd never been sick yet to need it! We pulled Andrew out of the bath and Ted went shopping for the medicine. Another mom called me and told me that the Motrin will work better than Tylenol, and I should see results within 20 minutes, but she couldn't believe I wasn't at the ER already. The concern with that high of a temperature is seizures - which I'm aware of, but it seemed silly to me to go straight to the ER without having tried anything but a bath yet. Just last week one of her friends had their baby taken by ambulance to the hospital because of seizures with the same temperature. In my research, they can't find that the seizures do any long-term damage or anything so I still wanted to wait for the Motrin.
At 8:10pm he had a dose of Motrin, and when we took his temperature 40 minutes later (he was sleeping and I didn't want to bother him until he was moaning again) it was down to 102.2 (103.2) so I was able to breathe a sigh of relief that we were making progress. If it were a virus that needed immediate attention, it would not have responded to the Motrin most likely. We let him go back to sleep, but he moaned a little bit just about every two hours. At 4:30am he cried so we both got up and gave him a half dose of Motrin. I took his temperature and it was down to 100.0 (101.0) so I wasn't worried anymore. He saw a bottle of milk in my hand and sat up asking for it which was a good sign too. He got up again at 6:50am and seemed like he was back to his normal self. He was bringing me books, ate some oatmeal, and was pushing his toys around as usual. He still wasn't 100% but feeling better. He got a little cranky on and off throughout the day, but I really do believe it is because of his teeth coming in. Poor guy. We put him to bed early tonight and plan to do the same ourselves.
On a lighter note.. it is becoming more and more obvious that he really can read. Not just flash cards - but his books! This morning he brought me his Go Dog Go book, opened to the page where its night time and there are dogs having a party on a boat.. he pointed to the moon and SAID "moon!" I guess Nana and Daddy have both emphasized the moon more than I have. He also brought me his farm book and was telling me the animals and the sounds too. But in all his books this morning I was asking him to point to different words, without ever reading the pages to him, and he picked them out correctly. He has been doing this for days, but its more often in the morning than in the evening so daddy generally misses out on the proof. FINALLY, tonight he correctly pointed to the words "down" and "boat" and "stream" in his Row Row Row Your Boat book. He pointed to words in his Dog book too but I dont remember which ones. It is quite impressive.. I think anyway. I dont know any other one year olds personally so I dont really know what everyone else does at this age. I did ask him if he knew where the letter M was on the keyboard and he touched the M first and then the N. I had no idea he knew any particular letters! He blows me away.

Let's skip a year...
and just go ahead and have all our teeth. Seriously?! The pediatrician said he wouldn't get any more teeth until he's two. Uhm.. wrong! He cut both of his two-year molars on top this week. We all questioned whether he was teething or not since he had a little bit of drool and was chewing on things more. So Andrew has 18 teeth now. Two to go and he's done until they start getting replaced with permanent teeth!
He also started to try and run without holding on to anything this week. He's tried a few times - and successfully I might add, although it wasn't for very far. I dont think I've seen him crawl but maybe once or twice for just a few steps worth.
His feet barely fit into the size 4 shoes he has right now, but since the weather is colder I have been putting his shoes one when we go out. Daddy needed new shoes so we went to Rack Room Shoes to find some in town. I let Andrew walk around and I followed him. He was so cute. He walked in an out of the isle going from the hardwood floor to the carpet and back again. They have a big orange square painted on their floor that has BO above GO (for buy one get one) and he kept stopping to point to the word "GO". Then he found a box of shoes that said Astro Dog or something Dog on it.. and he stopped to show me the word "Dog." I'm impressed with how perceptive he is at finding familiar words. He kept on walking and would stop and dance to the music playing too. He was really good at not touching everything.
We then headed over to Electronics Express to drool over wide screen tvs that Ted has been dreaming of. I let Andrew get down and walk around.. he ran a few times, walked in circles a few times, stopped and danced a few times. Never once tried to touch anything which I find amazing. He is such a good little boy! Just so happy and content. He then started signing for milk so I knew it was time to head home and get a snack and head for bed.
Today was the first time at the meeting that he wandered throughout the hall all by himself. He didn't seem to notice that I wasn't following him. Of course, at one point I had to run to catch up - I thought for sure he'd turn around at the end of the auditorium and come back to me. (I was standing in the front of the hall by the stage, and he took off for the back where the entrance is.) The first time he made a full loop, but the second time he headed for the main doors and was going to go outside. Didn't even phase him that I wasn't with him. Someone told me this is the beginning of a 3 year chase. Always chasing him trying to keep up with whatever mischief they'll find.
He also seemed to realize today during the Watchtower lesson that he was the only person around without one. You should have seen it. He looked at mine, looked at Ted's, sat up straight in his seat and looked at the brother reading the lesson and almost had a reaction of 'hey!! Where is MINE?!' He tried to take Ted's from him. He wasn't particularly interested in his own books after that. I was kind of hoping he wouldn't have that revelation for a couple of more years, but why should I be surprised that it happened today - he seems so much older than he is anyway. We have to remind ourselves of that sometimes.. he's only one!
And today at the meeting, someone made a comment that made the congregation chuckle.. and that is one of Andrew's things - to laugh as if he's in the conversation. So he starts laughing and the whole hall hears it. He's so funny. But it shows you that he's listening to what is going on around him... he's not lost in his own world. He claps when everyone claps, he laughs when everyone laughs. He loves it when everyone starts singing.
He did stretch to try and reach the fire alarm twice today. So glad he's too short for that! But oh boy - when he is tall enough, I hope he can resist the temptation!
He comes into our bathroom now to shop for my hair brush. He picked it up off the counter a couple of days ago. I told him what it was and he immediately put it to the top of his head. I showed him how to use it and then let him brush my hair too. That is his new favorite thing in our bathroom... my hair brush. He comes shopping for it... gets on his tippy toes to peer over the counter and touch everything until he finds the brush.
Oh.. Ted does a really good impression of an elephant. I can't do it. But Andrew tries! He purses his lips together and tries to make the same sound Ted does. And if he feels like it wasn't good enough - he just hums a high pitch noise that imitates the same inflections of Ted's elephant tones.
I also have a noisemaker toy (for my studio) that is an elephant. You press the button on the foot and it plays the music of 'Tequila'. Andrew gets a kick out of it. He brought it into the house recently from the studio... and has finally figured out how to turn it on by himself. He knew to press the red button, but he wasn't pushing it hard enough.. but he does now! Just took him a good day to get the hang of it.

Can he get any cuter?!
Andrew is really taking off with his walking skills. He's finally preferring to walk around the house more than crawl. Tuesday evening when he saw daddy coming up the outside steps, he actually ran toward the door for a few steps.
Monday evening, during our family study, he decided he'd had enough and got up and started pushing his mailbox up and down the hallway. Each time he got next to me, though, he started making kissing noises. He'd start walking by me and send his kisses our way, turn around and head back down the hallway.
He climbs down and up the stairs like they're nothing to him. This week is the first week he's so freely gone down the stairs rather than sit at the top and throw toys. It will only be a matter of time before he is into the cat food and possibly the cat litter down there. He does pick up little pieces of cat food to eat.
Tuesday morning he finally realized he can open my studio door. I was in the studio cleaning it up before a shoot and he opened the door and walked right in! Of course, after that, he knew he could do it so he goes down the stairs and opens the door for himself randomly throughout the day. During my session he came down and knocked on the door and then tried the handle, but Nana got him before he could come in.
Before Nana got here on Tuesday morning, Andrew and I were playing outside. He was wearing an outfit that David and Adam wore as toddlers... over 30 years ago! Anyway, a neighbor down the street drives a white mini van that looks just like Nana's. So I saw a white van turn onto our street and I said, "Nana's here!" and the van kept on going by. He never saw the van, but he sure understood what I said! He came tearing up the walkway with his mailbox, climbed the stairs and sat at the door as if to say, "okay! Let me in to see Nana!" I felt bad.. it was an honest mistake.
Andrew makes his own version of 'vroom vroom' noises when he plays with his trucks and front-loader tractor toys. He roars at the word "Tiger" in his books when you just point to them. He growled at the "Bear" although I dont recall anyone teaching him that.
He points to the word "up" in his books. He used to just throw his arm up in the air, but now when you ask him where the word is, he points to it. We discovered this week that he noticed that word in two more books all on his own (because he'd show us the page and put his arm in the air and say 'uh'.) He says Dog, he's trying to say Go (from the book Go, Dog. Go!) and he will identify those words as well on the page by words or by pointing.
I'm still not sleeping through the night. I try to get to bed around 9 but thats not always possible. But I wake up in the midnight hour, often in the 2am hour if not awakened by Andrew moaning (or full on crying), again in the 4am hour (unless i'm only then falling asleep again from being up at 2). Ted's alarm goes off at 5am and occasionally I actually sleep through it. Andrew starts talking by 5:30 but sometimes will fall back asleep for a few minutes at a time (which allows me to doze more) but is up and ready to go by 6:20. It must be so amazing to actually sleep all the way through the night! But I probably wont get that for many more years.
Today I put real shoes on him before going to make a bank deposit. When we got home, I was able to just set him down in the driveway and he took off walking through the grass. Such a nice change over carrying him to the door! We rarely put shoes on him.. its better for them to walk without shoes, but I wanted him to wear my favorite shoes at least one more time. His feet are growing so fast he doesn't even fit the size for an entire season it seems.
Here are some pictures of him in the sweater outfit that my brothers wore as kids. I prefer the sweater with jeans instead of the matching pants. Much cuter with jeans.

He loves his Mommy
I forgot to mention that on Saturday, I had photoshoots all day. I left before 8am and didn't get home until close to 5pm. Ted told me that Andrew walked around saying Mom a lot of the day. At one point, he even went to the bathroom door (which was closed) and was knocking on the door hoping I was in there.
I love it when he comes running into my arms or legs just to give me a hug.
Monday morning I decided I'd try to take a shower even though Andrew was on the loose. He was playing in his room when I turned the water on, but less than a minute later I heard him coming as fast as he could! Then I spent the next 6 minutes playing 'peek a boo' with him. I'm showering as fast as I can while he opens one side of the curtain and peeks in, then walks to the other end of the shower and pulls the curtain aside to peek in... back and forth he went for the duration of my short shower.
He wants to type:0000000000000000000000000000000000000 nbhghngggggggggh
He is doing a really good job walking now. He still prefers to use his toys as assistance to run across the house, but walks alone a lot more too. I think Sunday was the first time he chose to walk more than crawl and Kingdom Hall too which got several excited. They've been waiting!
Grandma - this video is a bit outdated now, he walks better than this.. but here is one of the videos I was able to get of him taking a few steps.
I forgot to mention that a week or so ago, we were on our walk down the street and I finally got him to notice his shadow. I asked if he could wave to his shadow and he did! I dont know what he thought of that.. lol.
Here is the video of him sending kisses:

Andrew Choked :(
Above is his lion/tiger roar from a few days ago
Tonight we came home from meeting, took a nap, and then headed off to have dinner at Applebees in order to avoid trick or treaters. Andrew choked on food tonight. It was a tiny piece of chicken but I guess it just got lodged in the wrong place or something. He started gagging and looking panicky and saliva started to pool in his mouth. I swabbed his mouth with my fingers, and managed to get it out the second time. He still ended up throwing up some and gagging on all the fluid. I was prepared to tip him upside down and push on his tummy to dislodge it, but he was a champ and we were able to avoid that sort of scene. Still an unnerving way to start dinner.
Below is hopefully a video of Andrew running down the hallway in his superman costume.

Blonde Baby Superman
I have several videos I wish would upload. I guess I can't use the blogger video upload successfully. I have videos of him roaring like a tiger, playing the piano and dancing, making the "muah" kissing sound, playing peekaboo under a blanket, and punching the insert of the diaper genie, as well as taking some steps, walking, and then running with his toys.
Andrew roars like a Tiger whenever you ask... but appears to have forgotten what cats and cows and dogs say until you remind him. Everything is a tiger roar. He does a really good job with it too!
At least once a day he goes to the front door and tries to turn the knob. Then he looks out the little window pane, and then sometimes will get upset that he's not able to get out.
Friday morning he was sitting reading one of his word books. Without saying anything I turned the page and he saw the word "hi" and said hi and waved. I turn the page and he sees the word 'dog' and says "dah" for dog. A few pages over he sees the word wave and starts waving his hand again without saying hi. A couple of days ago, in another book we were reading words and he pointed to the page with milk on it and then showed me the sign for milk.
He is finally getting the sign for "finished, done" a little more distinguished. He puts his arm up in the air by his ear and flips his hand. I'm guessing he raises his arm because most of the time when we sign, we are above him. Maybe I should work at signing at his level.
Right after Andrew was born, someone at Ted's work gave him a superman costume that their kid outgrew before wearing. The top just happens to fit him right now. The pants are a size bigger than the top and we ended up having to cut the bottoms off to shorten, but they still fall down on him.

Family Pictures!
We finally got updated family pictures! I was supposed to swap photography with another girl in town who has a kid two months older than Andrew, but things fell through so I hired Paula to come out to the farm and take pictures of us. There are some cute ones.
Andrew can climb on the couch all by himself, and he loves to jump on it. I put him on the couch when he watches his reading video, and sometimes he stands up and crawls all over the couch. If I'm in the vicinity though, I can ask him to sit back down and he's pretty good at obeying.
He does not like broccoli. I dont know if it is texture or taste.. but he will take it back out of his mouth. He still loves green beans which we eat nearly every day.
Andrew has started to make kiss sounds, probably from all the times I kiss him on the cheek in a day. "mmmm..uah" smacking his lips as he does it. So cute!
A couple of days recently, I let him run around outside pushing his mailbox in the driveway. He ran barefoot the first time and took a chunk out of each big toe! Never has complained about it. I put manuka honey on them one night and Ted put neosporin on them two other times. I have crocs on him now when he walks around outside. Those are lightweight enough that it doesn't confuse his walking. He drags his toes because he runs instead of walks. He LOVES being outside.
The past couple of days have been really windy because of storms in the gulf. I take Andrew outside and he laughs at the wind blowing the leaves on the trees, and he loves it when I walk him under the branches of leaves and they touch his head or he can reach for them.
This morning Andrew helped unload the dishwasher.. he took out a plate and handed it to me to put away, then got the next one. He unloaded almost all the plates for me. The further the plates were from him, the harder he had to pull, and a couple of times when the plate finally came out he fell backwards. But it didn't phase him. What a good helper!
I read that in a play group, kids his age will want to play next to other kids rather than actually play with other kids. I dont think that is actually the case with Andrew. Sure, he enjoys playing next to them.. especially at the Hall where if he shows any interest in anyone he risks getting picked up or hauled off to walk somewhere. He just wants to play on the step there in the front. Anyway, when I have customers come through.. he wants to play with the kids. Today we had severe weather roll through right as I was in the middle of an outdoor photoshoot. So we came in and hung out until the tornado warning passed. Andrew wanted to play with the little 2 year old girl, but she didn't want to play with him.
He doesn't like taking long baths anymore. He still lets me use the shower head on him, and then he plays with some toys for a few minutes, and then starts trying to climb out. He knows how to work the drain stopper now too.
You have to watch him with the diaper genie and the trash can. He likes to throw his toys in them - he just doesn't realize that it's a permanent loss if I dont catch what he's doing! But he finds the diaper genie to be great entertainment. He flips the top from side to side, and if the pusher in the middle doesn't move, he punches it to the other side and flips the top again to make it move back. He's so smart.
He has rediscovered his love for the game of peekaboo. He will put a napkin, a blanket, or even a piece of clothes over his head and sit and giggle before revealing himself. So fun!
I am so in love with my little boy.

Sweet face
Electrical outlet covers do absolutely no good when your toddler can take them out himself. What is worse is that he tries to put them back in too. Which means... he'll eventually try to stick other things in those little holes too. And he does not like being told NO and dragged away from the outlets.
He is wanting to eat with a fork now. If he seems uninterested in finishing his food, all I have to do is give him a fork and he nearly wipes the tray clean. He has really great coordination with it too! I help him put food on the fork and it goes straight to his mouth. The smaller the fork the easier it is for him obviously, but he does well even with a full size fork.
Here are some pictures I took that show his big boy haircut and his sweet face:

FEET!
I finally have a complete composite now. It's 10x30 which is an odd size, and probably bigger than life size. Maybe I can find a print size that is smaller and the same proportion to work with. Anyway.. here are Andrew's feet with our wedding rings from 5 days old to 1 year old. I think its pretty accurate. I did my best to resize each image to make the rings the same size, but they're all different angles but I'm certain it's very close to accurate. The 6 month to 9 month shots look deceiving since the one foot on the 6 month image is higher than the other making the difference between the 6 month image and the 9 month image look negligible. I need to do an overlay composite to see the growth of the feet too. That could be both odd and interesting. I think you can click on these to make them larger.
